How to Get to Comelico

Getting to the Car

The comelic valleys can be reached by car by three main crossings: to the southwest that of the Comelic Gallery, to the northwest that of the Montecroce Pass and to the east that of the Orrido Acquatona. Highways do not travel the Comelicense territory. The nearest Motorway Casello is that of Ponte in the Alps, which allows access to the A27 Mestre-Bridge in the Alps, and is 46 km away. From Friuli Venezia Giulia you can take the A23 Udine-Tarvisio to Tolmezzo, covering 54 km. In Trentino South Tyrol, on the other hand, you can enter the A22 Brenner-Modena at the Height of Bressanone by covering 84 km.

Getting there by Train

For those who travel by train the nearest train station is that of Calalzo di Cadore and is far from the Comelico 16 km. Towards Friuli Venezia Giulia we have the Carnia, near Tolmezzo, which is 60 km away, while in Trentino South Tyrol San Candido is reached by 15 km.

Getting by Bus

The Comelico can also be reached by bus, the company SAF of Udine makes interregional trips with the line 121 “Triestina”, which daily connects the city of Trieste with S.Candido. Holzer operates a shuttle service connecting Val Pusteria to the Padola ski resort “Skiarena”, which is only in force during the winter. Also of Holzer the new Line 440 that connects Santo Stefano with San Candido, an experimental service for the 2014-2015 season that connects the two locations 6 times in the round and 6 in the return during the day. The company Dolomitibus, which is the most present in the territory, makes a connection to Auronzo di Cadore with Line 31, useful to return from excursions on the Popera Group. From here it is possible to take the connection to Misurina, Ampezzo and Trentino South Tyrol. A Calalzo-Santo Stefano-Sappada link provides access to Val Belluno and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Also worth mentioning is the Line 35 Pontenuovo-Laggio which is useful returning from excursions on the Brentoni.

Internal Buses

The Dolomitibus covers the need for internal travel between countries and various locations of interest. From Boxing Day, designated as the main station, you go to Comelico Superior and Danta with Line 32. Line 34, on the other hand, connects the countries of St. Peter Costalta and Costalissoio.
