The Lai Hill

We return once again to the beautiful Vallona, this time to climb to the top and then continue along the border ridge towards Col de Lai. Departure as usual from Malga Melin, with a stop at Armando Piva Bivouac we climb along the left side of the valley. Having reached the simple Grassy peak of Vallona, we deviate eastwards on sometimes exposed ups and downs towards the vault of Col de Lai. Fairly simple route which however requires getting used to the exposure. There is a rich presence of military remains, with very deep trenches and bases of old war constructions. Including the fully fortified hilltop. We descend to Passo di Vallona and return on the same mule track with the CAI-144 trail sign. In the passage between the two peaks we collect photos of two excavated caves that can serve as a shelter.
